Bone Tumors
Bone tumors are abnormal tissues that may cause destruction and deformity in joints. Bone tumors are encountered in a very wide perspective. They can be benign or malignant. They can originate from bone tissue or may originate from a different tissue and metastasis to the bone. If they are originated from other tissues there are called metastatic tumors. Benign bone tumor, malignant bone tumors and metastatic bone tumors all have different diagnosis and treatment algorithms.
Bone tumors may present with pain or swelling and different findings. Also sometimes they may present with fractures.
Like all diseases there tumors have genetic transition. People who have a family history of bone and soft tissue tumors must be extra careful. Also factors such as smoking, alcohol and occupational diseases may also affect the process.
The diagnosis of bone tumor is made by orthopedic doctors followed by examination and tests. After the diagnosis treatment may continue in different departments such as medical oncology, radiology, pathology in a coordinated fashion.
We must not forget that Bone tumors require a long and attentive diagnosis and treatment process.
