1- What is Soft Tissue Sarcoma?
Soft Tissue Sarcoma is the general denomination of a large group of cancers originating from soft tissues.
2- What are the causes of sarcomas?
Although the exact cause of many types of sarcoma is not known clearly, mutation of some genes is blamed on the mechanism of the disease. For this disease group, we canalso list risk factors that some of them can be seen below;
Some hereditary diseases,
Lymphedema,
Radiotherapy applied for other reasons, some viruses and exposure to certain chemicals.
3- What are the symptoms of soft tissue sarcomas?
Swelling and palpable mass in soft tissue, the rapid growth of this mass, pain, sometimes weight loss, and skin changes can be listed among the symptoms. These masses can sometimes be painless.
4- Can you tell us about their types?
Soft tissue sarcomas are named according to the soft tissue of origin and histological behavior. There are varieties such as liposarcoma, synovial sarcoma, malignantnerve sheath tumor, angiosarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma.
5- What is the treatment?
Successful surgery is the most important element in the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas. In surgery, the tumor must be completely removed with wide margins.
Radiotherapy Treatment can be applied before the operation, during the operation, or after the operation, depending on the situation.
Chemotherapy can be effective regarding thehistological behavior of cancer.
Finally, chemotherapy drugs developed for the targeted cells, known as smart drugs, increase our success in the treatment of this disease.
